Back in 2014, me and a group of girlfriends that have kept in contact over the years from high school and college started talking about taking a trip…
We decided to plan a trip to Jamaica, researched the activities, & even found a great hotel.. We were set!
We were like, let’s do this. So we got the deposit down from everyone and the trip was basically booked. However, as we got closer to the trip, some of the ladies started coming up with all types of stories when it was time for them to make their next payment… Some of them went ghost, some of them said something came up, and one by one were started losing people for the trip.
Before we knew it, we went from 20 people going on this trip to only 8 people, 12 of the ladies fell off. One lady went as far as saying something happened to her flight, and come to find out she never booked the flight.
That experience taught me a lesson. Had we followed suit with the 12 people that came up with excuses, we would have never gone on that trip. At the end of day we just had to go on the trip with those who were serious. We started coming with a theme, “If sis ain’t coming, leave them.”
& That’s when the idea of Ladies & Luggage became a reality! Now we have an amazing community of sis & aunties who value traveling, new experiences, and making memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

My story is the complete opposite from Dacia, I was the solo traveler, I was the girl that never had a problem jumping on a plane solo.
I love traveling. My parents loved to travel, every summer we took a family vacation, I even took my first steps in our family van on a road trip from Chicago to California. I spent every summer with my grandmother, no matter what city or state she was in. Now, my grandmother was not your typical grandma, she likes to gamble, drink margarita’s get up and go. She had what we called the 7 year itch. She would move every 7 years.
So traveling and is in my blood. I wasn’t afraid of traveling, and I wasn’t afraid of traveling solo. I was the friend that when you called me and said something was going on, I was hoping on a plane solo. I just didn’t want to be bothered by anyone or slowed down by anyone.
Then I started to date Dacia’s brother. Now, Dacia was already in the travel industry. She planned a couples trip to the Dominican Republic and it ended up being only the 4 of us.
We had a blast and it was my first time traveling with other people. It was my first time sharing a space with people I didn’t know and it was my first time going by a schedule that someone else planned. It was also the first time I had traveled out of the country with someone other than my family. I was like this is sort of cool. Not only am I making memories, but I am sharing those memories with other people too.. Maybe I can get use to this!
So I was a bit more open to this group travel thing.
It was on that trip that in the Dominican that Dacia and I began to talk about the travel business, she was already in the travel business and was explaining how it worked to me.
Fast forward 4 months, we’re back home in Chicago and sitting in Starbucks we decided to go out on our own and create something that would bring the solo traveler and the frustrated girls trip traveler together. Thus, Ladies & Luggage was born! We planned our first group trip to the Cincinnati Music Festival and it made me think about all the people missing out on this experience like I did by not going on group trips before.
A whole new world opened up and now building sisterhood thru travel is our mission. Come hang with me on a trip, we would love to have you!
